Cats, designers, and a hyper sense of focus

Have you ever been surprised by how you reached a solution when you faced a problem? I sure was last week when I had to deal with a leak at my rental unit. Since my unit is a condo, leaks can often be tricky to navigate as they can come from anywhere above and involve cooperation from multiple residents along with our building manager. {Queue immediate headache.} I'll spare you all the details, but as the plumber was preparing to leave, identifying the upstairs sink as the possible culprit, my unit's occupant says "You know, my cat stares at the tub's access panel ALL the time. I never hear anything myself, but he's obsessed."

Well, lo and behold — after further investigation the plumber ultimately finds the actual cause of the leak (it was not the sink). Thanks to Chewie's advanced sense of hearing and obsessive cat focus, we were able to get to the root of the problem — and hopefully spare us all more headaches down the road.

Just like cats, designers have super senses, too.

Designers may not have an advanced sense of hearing, but we do have a heightened sense of focus and an obsession with the smallest of details — whether it's ensuring your materials are staying on brand or thinking outside the box to solve a problem. When a designer joins the conversation early, she can offer a unique perspective and consider factors early on that may affect the end result. That's when true partnership can begin to build — and not only will your work become easier, but your brand will also thrive.

Want to tap into a designer's super senses to solve your next problem? Let's chat — I promise I'll respond faster than your average cat! :)
